Exactly when a fuse first appeared in the field of electricity is
still not known.What we do know for sure is that in the 1860s platinum
wires were used to protect undersea cables.On the other hand, the
appearance of the first enclosed fuse designed to melt has been
the object of some discussion. History books tell us that it all
began with a patent taken out by Thomas Edison in 1880.But it has
also been suggested that the great English physicist Sir Joseph
Swan played a major role in early development of the fuse…

La date de la première apparition d’un fusible dans
le domaine électrique demeure une question sans réponse.
Ce qui est sûr c’est que dès les années
60 au dix-neuvième siècle des fils de platine furent
utilisés pour la protection de câbles sous-marins.
Par contre il y a débat sur l’arrivée du premier
fusible à fusion enfermée dans une enveloppe. L’histoire
retient que tout commence avec le brevet déposé par
Thomas Edison en 1880. Mais, il a été aussi suggéré
que c’est le grand physicien anglais Sir Joseph Swan qui joua
un rôle important dans le principe initial du fusible…
